MNSEC FOOTBALL
MNSEC football was held on the 19th of May at Memorial oval in Port Pirie. MNSEC was able to enter three teams into the competition: Years 7/8 boys, 9/10 boys and 7/8/9 girls. To be selected for the teams’, the students travelled to Jamestown to participate in trials.
Yr. 7/8 Boys
Hudson Seidel was selected as the 7/8 boy’s captain. They started off their day with a big win against a Burra/Eudunda combined side in which Gavin O’Brien kicked 7 goals! The second game was much tougher against St Marks, with the team going down by over 10 goals.

The Yr. 7-9 girls won by 5 goals against Maitland in their only game and the Gladstone High School girls featured strongly in the best players. As the umpire of the game, the girls played the game in great spirits and were respectful to all involved.

Yr. 9 & 10s MNSEC v Maitland
The first game for the Yr. 9/10 MNSEC students was against Maitland, with Connor McCallum from Booleroo named the captain of the side. MNSEC started the match dominant in the midfield, with Jayden Walker and Kaden Groves getting plenty of the ball early. This clear ball out of the centre allowed our forwards to go to work with a fast five goal to zero first quarter. The side never looked back after their quick start with players performing their roles all over the ground. The lead continued to grow throughout the game and ended up a comfortable win of 100 points. Cooper Seidel was a standout performer with five goals in the match playing forward pocket. Joel Finlay from Quorn was strong across the half-back line, and as a group, the defenders managed to hold Maitland to 1 goal throughout the entire game.

Yr. 9/10s MNSEC v Clare High School
The winner of this game would progress to the next round of the State-Wide competition after both teams recorded a round one win! The competition was fierce in the centre of the ground with some big tackles laid. Clare eventually broke the deadlock and was able to surge the ball forward. Antwan O’Brien played a ‘Ben Rutten’ like the game, despite being outsized, and didn’t allow his opponent any chance to score. Playing back to back games was always going to be difficult for our boys, and eventually, Clare began to kick away.

I want to congratulate all students on their selection to the team and a massive thank you to all parents, coaches, umpires and officials who made the day possible.
