Many of these skills are developed through relevant hands on activities in the core subjects of: Mathematics, English, HASS (Humanites & Social Sciences), Science and Health & Physical Education. In order to further enhance their personal growth students also participate in a range of specialty subjects offered on termly or semester rotations, these include: Technology Studies, Home Economics, Visual Arts and Digital Media.
Year 8 students take part in an aquatics camp at Port Augusta.
Year 9 students participate in the Ski Trip to Falls Creek.

Students are elected to the school's Student Leaders committee from each year level. They develop leadership skills, interact with a broader cross section of the school and wider community, and participate in decision making to help create an even better school.
Gladstone High School also offers opportunities for students to participate in, and support, a range of sports at school, MNSEC and regional levels. ie SSSSA Athletics and Swimming. Students also participate and support the GHS Sports Day and Swimming Carnival. These days combine competition with fun and are enjoyed by all.
